Treat Yo Self: Pastel de Chocolate at Meso Maya

On a recent visit to the downtown outpost of regional Mexican restaurant Meso Maya, our tummy was full of steak and queso deliciousness, yet our server thrilled us with the additional delights that could be experienced by ordering the Pastel de Chocolate. We weren’t certain. Then he said the Oaxacan chocolate cake was served warm AND with ice cream, and we were sold. This tender, moist round of pastry was sauced in chocolate rum sauce drizzled over fresh corn ice cream flecked with juicy kernels. “We couldn’t - we’re too full” quickly became “give us space while we snarf this.” It was a rich, delectable indulgence to close out a fine meal.
